Greenville Health System

I have volunteered approximately 110 hours at the Greenville Health System in various areas, such as outpatient, specials and radiology. When I volunteered, I made sure patient rooms were clean and orderly before a patient came. When a patient got out of surgery, I cared for his or her needs and made him or her comfortable. In specials after surgery, I cleaned the rooms where the procedures were done. I sanitized everything, removed dirty linens and prepared the room for the next surgery. I also took messages for physicians and delivered them to nurses. After patients were discharged, I helped them get into a wheel chair, took them to the loading area and waited with them while their family member got the car to pick them up. From my time volunteering at Greenville Health System, I learned about the different aspects of the health care system from the perspective of someone who was actually involved in the direct care of patients. I learned about the various barriers to health that patient’s experience, such as location of care and health illiteracy. I got to interact with patients directly and that was a wonderful experience for me because it only emphasized my love for helping others.

My volunteer badge and uniform that I wear when I volunteer at any location in the Greenville Health System.
